What a semester it has been, but like all good things it must come to an end. However just before UCT throws you in that dungeon of a building-The Sports Centre- to write ridiculously long papers on material you were barely taught, RainbowUCT has just one more climax for you!

RainbowUCT is proud to present its end-of-semester function, simply themed Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Like all RainbowUCT parties this promises to be a great on...e! We are infamous for our raunchy, out-of-this-world parties and what can we do but confirm these sentiments?

V-MonologuesRainbowUCT proudly presents The V-Monologues: Intimate talks about female sexuality. By women, for women... straight, gay and even spaghetti!

This inaugural event, specifically for the treasured female members of our community, promises lots of thought-provoking fun. Join us for a glass of wine and activism in action (drag your straight girlfriends along if you must!), as well as inspiring company and food for thought. Time: 12 May · 17:00 - 20:00 Location: Centre for African Studies Gallery, Upper Campus, University of Cape Town, Rondebosch 7700

Our guest Monologuer for the event will be Ndumi Funda, a fellow feminist and founder of Luleki Sizwe. This will be followed by a screening of the documentary "Road to Pride". Wine and snacks will end the event on a high note!

"Love knows no gender, race or colour"

“Lights, Camera, Action!” It is that time of the year again: RainbowUCT presents the official RainbowUCT Movie Night. This highlight of the Rainbow social calendar promises gay cinema at its best and buttered popcorn bursting at the seams!

Join your fellow LGBTIQ film connoisseurs on the evening of the 16th of April from 18:00 to 22:00 for a night of tasteful gay cinema in Leslie Social Science Lecture Theatre 1C. A selection of LGBTIQ-themed films will be screened. This event serves to explore current themes in gay cinema, but above all as a chance to escape the relentless pace of university life, sink a little deeper into our seats and enjoy quality time with our friends (or fellow critics). Ample amounts of popcorn and soft drinks sweeten the deal.

Hope to see you all there! The RainbowUCT Team

This is the RainbowUCT End-of-Year function and your last chance to have fun before we all have to knuckle down and study!

The theme is GAY PROM so get your outfits ready a.k.a. this is a chance to bring out your fancy and dress formal with a little gay fun! If you don’t dress up you will be judged and no one does judging better then them gays (and Christians).

The best dressed girl couple and boy couple will each receive a pair of super sexy underwear from 3rd Beach. WHICH ARE AMAZING! They will also be crowned the GAY PROM KING(s) and GAY PROM QUEEN(s). We encourage gender bending so if you feel like wearing a suit or a dress or both, go for it!

The best dressed will be judged on three criteria: theme suitability, originality and effort!

You are cordially invited to attend a panel discussion by a diverse group of LGBTI activists and researchers.

Who are ‘we’ and what does this mean for LGBTI struggles in South Africa now?

Date: 13 October 2010
Time: 5:30 for 6, until 8
Venue: The Institute for the Humanities in Africa, Upper Campus, UCT.

This panel discussion falls under the rubric of the new Institute for the Humanities in Africa (HUMA) at UCT, and is an opportunity to invite those living the practice we theorise about to share their expertise with us. As part of our research area “On Being Human”, we also offer this panel as a chance for reflection and communication between sectors in the LGBTI communities and between the academy and practitioners and activists.

The broad questions we will be addressing are:

The Baxter has extended a second special offer to all RainbowUCT members! For those of you who missed the offer on Carmen, members can get tickets at a ridiculously discounted price of R40 for the upcoming production, Beautyfull - that's a saving of R90!

Beautyfull, a work directed by Ina Wichterich, is an edgy, life-affirming and poignant dance piece with a trademark sense of humour. It showcases Remix Dance Company, Jazzart Dance Theatre and SA Circle of Dance Academy. It has been brought back by public demand after its great success in 2008 when featured during a women's festival with the theme Women and Disability.

Beautyfull is a life-affirming artwork, performed in an effective and humorous manner. It deals with the topic of women and disability, seeking to challenge preconceived ideas and stereotypes while elegantly reminding the audience that disabled people are still people.
