Hey RainbowUCT

SRC Interrogations

One of our dedicated members Lindelwa had the excellent idea of RainbowUCT attending and participating in the SRC interrogations tomorrow evening at Clarinus, so we are. It starts at 8:30 pm and runs until 10pm. We will all meet there and form a little intellectual posse, asking questions to the running candidates on what they plan to do concerning "gay rights" and increasing visibility, integration and what policies they would put in place concerning these (and what ever else you would like to ask obviously).

I have heard there are a couple of openly gay candidates running for SRC but they have not included any points relating to gay rights on their manifestos or policies. As a society that represents the UCT LGBTI community, it is our duty to challenge the manifestos of those running which lack any inclusion of gay rights or the acknowledgment of diversity beyond race. Lets go and show them that the "gay vote" is an important one and we will make history as we fly the rainbow flag high and challenge the current status quo that homosexual people have at this university. As the SRC is for all students after all, even the gay ones.

Discussion Group

Our DG today, run by the Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation's Andrew and Ben, was extremely interesting and we hope that you will volunteer to help with the survey as advertised in the last email.

Next week, we will not be having a DG as we will be having the Intervarsity Social (see below).

Intervarsity Social

Lesbigay will be hosting the annual Intervarsity Wine Tasting next Saturday the 28th at Spier Wine Estate, so save the date. We will be leaving early and travelling on the (Cain) train to Stellies, which is always fun.

If last year is anything to go by, it's going to be one heck of an event. LGBTI societies from a number of Universities and tertiary institutions have been invited, including Loud Enuf UWC and Glos CPUT.

You will be able to try 3 different wines for free or pay a minimal fee for five wines. After the tastings everyone can buy another bottle or two, grab some food at the local fresh foods store and head out to the estate park for a picnic on the grass.

More details will follow closer to the time.

See you there!
